With a commitment to high-quality teaching, small group sizes, and a focus on conservation, Oceans 5 Gili Air’s IDC is an ideal place to take your diving career to the next level.

Why Choose Oceans 5 Gili Air for Your PADI IDC?

Oceans 5 Gili Air has earned its status as a PADI CDC, an accolade awarded to dive centers that demonstrate excellence in training, conservation efforts, and professionalism. Since achieving this recognition in 2014, Oceans 5 has become a leading training facility in Indonesia, known for its focus on quality over quantity. This philosophy is reflected in every aspect of the IDC program, from the modern facilities and equipment to the personalized attention that candidates receive.

At Oceans 5 Gili Air, IDC candidates benefit from a small class size, with a maximum of six candidates per course. This ensures each candidate receives personalized guidance and attention from the experienced Course Director, Sander Buis, and the IDC Staff. Sander’s expertise and passion for diving have helped many divers successfully transition into confident and capable PADI instructors who can teach in a variety of environments worldwide.

Course Structure

The PADI IDC at Oceans 5 Gili Air spans 20 days and includes both the Assistant Instructor (AI) and Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) components. The course prepares candidates to handle every aspect of teaching PADI courses, from confined water sessions to open water dives. It also emphasizes teaching safety, adherence to PADI standards, and the importance of student control and problem-solving underwater.

The IDC follows PADI’s flexible curriculum, but what sets the Oceans 5 IDC apart is its tailored approach to individual needs. The course focuses on strengthening candidates’ weaknesses while honing their strengths, ensuring that every participant leaves the course as a competent and confident instructor. The training emphasizes realistic teaching techniques that candidates can apply immediately after their PADI Instructor Examination (IE), no matter where they are in the world.

The course includes:

  • Knowledge development: Covering theory, standards, and teaching techniques, with an emphasis on understanding and applying PADI’s educational philosophy.
  • Confined water training: Practicing how to teach diving skills in a controlled environment, ensuring that candidates are comfortable with both the skills themselves and how to demonstrate them to students.
  • Open water training: Conducting dives in real conditions, where candidates learn to manage student divers and deal with various scenarios they may face while teaching.
  • Workshops: Hands-on practice in topics like rescue skills, neutral buoyancy, and emergency scenarios, all conducted in Oceans 5’s state-of-the-art facilities.

Environmental Focus

One of the unique aspects of the PADI IDC at Oceans 5 Gili Air is its strong emphasis on environmental responsibility. As a PADI Career Development Centre with a commitment to marine conservation, Oceans 5 ensures that all IDC candidates are trained to be environmental stewards. This includes educating instructors on how to integrate eco-friendly practices into their teaching and how to encourage future divers to protect the marine environment.

During the IDC, candidates participate in conservation initiatives like weekly beach cleanups, coral monitoring, and the Dive Against Debris program. These activities align with Oceans 5’s philosophy of producing well-rounded dive professionals who understand the importance of preserving the underwater world.

First-Class Facilities and Equipment

Oceans 5 Gili Air provides exceptional facilities to support its IDC candidates. The dive center features two spacious training pools designed specifically for confined water sessions. The pools offer a controlled environment for candidates to refine their skills before heading out to the stunning dive sites around the Gili Islands.

Additionally, Oceans 5 maintains a well-stocked inventory of new, high-quality dive equipment, ensuring that candidates have access to everything they need for successful training. The dive center also boasts an upgraded compressor room, offering nitrox blends for those who wish to expand their qualifications by adding the Nitrox Specialty Instructor rating during their IDC.

Instructor Examination (IE) on Gili Air

For candidates enrolled in the IDC at Oceans 5 Gili Air, there is an added advantage when it comes to the PADI Instructor Examination (IE). If there are at least four IDC candidates, the IE is conducted right on Gili Air, allowing candidates to complete their exam in a familiar environment. This offers a significant comfort level, as candidates are already familiar with the dive center facilities, training pool, and local dive sites.

If there are fewer than four candidates, the exam takes place on neighboring Gili Trawangan, and Oceans 5 takes care of all the logistics, including transport to and from the exam venue.

Continuing Education and Specialty Instructor Training

After completing the IDC, Oceans 5 Gili Air offers opportunities for further education. Candidates can expand their teaching repertoire by participating in specialty instructor training, which covers a wide range of diving specialties, from Enriched Air (Nitrox) to Drift Diving and Shark Conservation. These additional qualifications allow new instructors to offer a wider variety of courses to future students, enhancing their employability in the diving industry.
